ANNUAL PARISH MEETING REPORT, 1st April 2020

Published: 01 April 2020

It is 12 months since I held the last Annual Parish Meeting. A lot has happened since then, including an election, where everybody who stood was re-elcted and we subsequently co-opted others to fill the vacancies. Our existing Clerk, Sarah, took the decision not to return at the end of her maternity leave. We then undertook a selection process to appoint a new Clerk: this was successful and we appointed Eve Haskins, who is an experienced Clerk and started working for the Parish Council in October 2019.

One of our Councillors, Roger Lambert, resigned earlier this year due to family commitments. He will be sadly missed for his expertise and dry sense of humour. I would like to thank Roger for the sterling work that he has done for the council.

We are now in very strange and uncertain times. Eve, Su Thompson (Vice-Chair) and I are in contact by phone discussing matters that need to be dealt with day to day. These decisions are all being noted so that when we next hold a Council meeting they can be ratified. The finances are all in order: Eve will prepare the year end accounts ready for the internal auditor and we have ample funds in the bank; the precept should land in our account in the next couple of weeks.

On Day One of the coronavirus outbreak, Su and I took the immediate decision to close the HUB for the duration of this episode. This information was passed to all user groups. The following week, in line with Government COBRA orders, all three of our playgrounds were closed also for the duration. The closure was undertaken by Parks and Landscapes from Bradford Council.

I would like to thank all my fellow Councillors for their understanding and support during these scary times.

I would also like to thank residents of Steeton with Eastburn for being sensible and following the Government guidelines and offering support to others.

Cllr David Mullen

Chair Steeton with Eastburn Parish Council
